Abstract

Winda Togatorop, The Influence of Skimming and Scanning Learning Models on Improving Students' Speed Reading Skills Through Virtual Online in Class VII Students of SMP Negeri 1 Paranginan Academic Year 2020/2021. Thesis. Department of Indonesian Language and Literature. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. SINGAMANGARAJA XII UNIVERSITY TAPANULI (UNITA). This study aims to determine the effect of skimming and scanning learning models on improving speed reading skills through virtual online grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Paranginan in the 2020/2021 academic year. The population in this study amounted to 180 people consisting of 6 classes namely VII-A, VII-B, VII-C, VII-D, VII-E, VII-F. The sample in this study amounted to 31 people taken by a simple random sampling process. The research method used is the experimental method, hypothesis testing is carried out using the "t" test. From the data processing, the average value of the pretest = 64.52, standard deviation = 6.26, standard error = 1.14. In the posttest, the average value = 77.58, standard deviation = 8.02 standard error = 1.46. Based on the normality test, the results of the pre-test and post-test were normally distributed. The value of F is obtained from the table with a level of significance = 0.05 or F0 (n1-1n2-1) Fcount , <Ftable or 1.61 < 4.16 so it can be concluded that the sample comes from a homogeneous population. The results of the calculation of the "t" test obtained a value of to = 7.09. After to is known, then the value will be consulted with table 1 at a significant level of 5% of 2.05. Based on the calculations that have been done, it can be seen that to > t table, which is 7.09 > 2.05.

Thus Ho (Nil hypothesis) is rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. This proves that the skimming and scanning learning model has an effect on the speed reading skills of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Paranginan in the 2020/2021 academic year
