Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the Collaborative Learning  learning model has an effect on students' ability to write explanatory texts by class VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Lintongnihuta for the 2020/2021 academic year. The population in this study amounted to 174 people consisting of 6 classes. The sample in this study amounted to 31 people who were taken by a simple random sampling process. The method used in this research is the experimental method. Hypothesis testing is done using the "t" test. From data processing, the mean value of Pre-test = 61.29, standard deviation = 9.24, standard error = 1.68. In the post-test, the average value = 79.83, standard deviation = 6.53, standard error = 1.19. Based on the normality test, the results of the pre-test and post-test were normally distributed. The value of F is obtained from the table with a level of significance = 0.05 or F_0 (n1 – 1n2 - 1) F_count < F_table or 2.00 < 4.16 so it can be concluded that the sample comes from a homogeneous population. The results of the calculation of the "t" test obtained the value of t_0 = 9.04. After t_0 is known, then the value will be consulted with table 1 at a significant level of 5% of 2.04. Based on the calculations that have been done, it can be seen that t_0 > t_table , which is 9.04 > 2.04.Thus H_0 (nil hypothesis) is rejected and H_a (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. This proves that the Collaborative Learning  model has an effect on the ability to write explanatory texts by class VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Lintongnihuta for the 2020/2021 academic year.
