Abstract

The aims of this study were to improve: (1) the quality of the speaking learning process, namely the activeness, courage, and cooperation of students in participating in learning speaking skills; (2) the quality of the learning outcomes of speaking skills which include intonation, word choice, fluency, and understanding. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) conducted at SMP Negeri 6 One Roof with the subject of class VII-1 students totaling 32 students. The object of research is learning to speak which is included in Indonesian language subjects. The research process was carried out in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages, namely the planning stage, the implementation stage, the observation stage, and the analysis and reflection stage. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is an increase in the quality of learning speaking skills, which include: (1) improving the quality of the speaking skill learning process marked by an increase in: (a) the number of students who are active in participating in speaking learning, (b) the number of students who dare to speak in in front of the class, and (c) the number of students who collaborate with their partners, (2) The improvement in the quality of learning outcomes is indicated by the increasing number of students who reach the limit of mastery in speaking skills, namely: (a) in the first cycle as many as 56, 25% or 18 students and in the second cycle increased to 87.50% or 28 students.
